Jan's home made tiramisu

It was Beth's farewell, someone ordered tiramisu from Jan. I can't tell who is Jan is but I think is someone good at baking start-up own business named Jan's homemade cakes. I googled about it and found some information about this Jan's home made cake.

They've just opened their shop at 16-C, Abu Siti Lane Penang. They're home based bakery and specializes in a wide range of cakes, pastry, cookies, puddings, puffs, pies and sandwiches. Business hour from 10am to 8pm, close on Sunday.

Savory Ham Cheesecake

Savory Ham Cheesecake

Have you ever try Ham Cheesecake before? I'm first time eating cheesecake with Ham. I never know Ham can mix with cake. Frankly, I not enjoy it much because cake should be taste sweet even most cheese taste sour and salty but cheesecake always baked to taste sweety. This ham cheesecake a bit caught in me, it look nice from the outside but when I take a bite on it. It just surprised me.

It taste salty! arrgh...taste shocked. How can cheesecake taste salty?? not my type of cake. If it taste sweet, I believe I will enjoy a lot.

This savory ham cheesecake is baked for salty taste lover. Some people like salty taste food. In my own analysis, I noticed most women like salty food while men like sweet taste food. It like Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. (".)

I wish to return the slices after a bite but I just finish it and try to proof that men and women are from same planet :-p ........impossible!

Massimo by the Italian Baker Sandwich with Honey

The easiest food to prepare when your 'chef' not around is the sandwiches. Get the Massimo by the Italian Baker grain bread and squeeze Euphoria Longana Honey from Eu Yan Sang, you immediately homemade yourself tasty good sandwiches.

Other brand's bread or honey also can, not necessary need to be Massimo or Eu Yan Sang. However, I can't guarantee the tastiness of the sandwiches. If you follow exactly the recipe from this post, I'm sure you will squeeze the honey for second pieces of Massimo bread. :-)

Humble Beginnings Mille Crepe Birthday Cake

There are many Sagis in my company, my department itself already have 2 Sagittarius. However, 1 already left. That day, we are celebrating Cutie Pie, Hooi Bing and ADelaporte's Birthday with the Humble Beginnings Mille Crepe. The organiser order 2 Mille Crepe, Strawberry Heaven and Mango Cheese.

The description on the flyer said: Twenty layers of crepes with a delightful combination of fresh cream and vanilla custard between each layer. The topmost layer is caramelized to give it a nice smoky sugary flavor. Everything is hand-made and hand-layered; a true labour of love.

We used to order the same cake for Petrus's birthday 2 years back.
That time, I reluctant to read the flyer and count the French Vanilla layer one by one.
It is so good. By looking at the cake, you wish them quickly sing the song

Cut the cake and distribute a piece to you.....hehe.

Anyway, if you would like to celebrate birthday with Mille Crepe Cake, you can order online at myshop.humblebeginnings.com.my or call to Humble Beginnings. Simple 5 steps to get the cake deliver to your doorstep. Oh ya, make sure you order at least 2 days in advance, or, 1 week in advance for festive seasons because all Humble Beginnings Mille Crepes are freshly made-to-order.

Step 1: Choose a Flavour
Step 2: Choose Toppings (optional)
Step 3: Specify Other Requests, if needed (eg: Happy Birthday inscription, candles required, preference to pre-cut and others)

additional step: call me to eat if you can't finish.

Penang Real Hokkien Mee (Prawn Noodles)

After Penang Beach Carnival Dragon Boat Race, our club organized a post-race gathering at one of friend's house. This gathering already postponed 3 times and finally it happen. Specialty about this gathering is Hokkien Mee (Prawn Noodles).

Alex Tah's mum used to sell Hokkien Mee at Mccallum Street, Penang. However, she is retired now. So, there is no way you can eat her hokkien mee anymore. Although, there are so many hokkien mee available in every corner in Penang. This is the best hokkien mee I tasted so far.

Look at it already "lau nua" *gulp*! Not to mention, the good companion of Hokkien Mee, Mr. Siok Bak. I believe many Penangites will agreed with me on the "good marriage" between Hokkien Mee and Siok Bak.

If you want to find out the combination of Hokkien mee and siok bak, you can visit to Astaka Batu Maung. Buy the siok bak from market and add it to the hokkien mee because there is no way to eat this homemade hokkien mee by Alex's mum.

French Homemade Healthy meal by ADelaporte

This is cross-country barter between Malaysia and France. I was offer with a French homemade healthy food in exchange for a session of Penang Hokkien dialect teaching. What I can tagged on ADelaporte are 2 items. One is fashion and another is food. Her eating habit is so healthy. No matter how much I promote Penang Laksa, how good it is, She never touch it. Many Penang hawker food, she don't eat. No matter how famous or how tastefull it is. So, at some point the food that you claimed tasty is not applicable internationally.

Anyway, she cooked me this energy boosted meal. Not rice but barley with pumpkin, mushroom and onion. Not like any taste I eat before but I enjoy it and acceptable.

Although just small portion but the fullness is last longer. While I enjoy eating the meal, in exchange, she also enjoy learning hokkien
She know how to count number in hokkien, ask some direction in hokkien, order some food in hokkien and most importantly, she know how to "Keong Kan" (fuck) people in Hokkien....lol

Yummy~~! This fried rice so unique and special. Oil-less and yet didn't burned, can't get it anywhere except homemade.

Homemade Curry Chicken Mantou

We at new Carrefour hypermarket at Bukit Minyak (previously known as Krico) and wondering what to prepare for breakfast next day. It is good to do-it-yourself than always eating out. Last time, we already made the sandwiches, this time want to do something new and not so complicated

I saw mantou (chinese plain bun), and post the question in the air: "Mantou go best with what huh?" With no hesitation, Elisa said curry. Wow, what a good combination, let do it.

We buy the ingredient we can think of like curry powder, chicken and potato. Still have some tomato left for last sandwich making. We are all set, as what we thought. Being dummy in cooking, this is the curry chicken cooked by Elisa:

Got the look but only taste spicy, nothing more, nothing less. We lack some ingredient like Santan (Coconut milk), onion and carrot. Luckily with complement from soft and fluffy mantou, it still taste good.

First time after so long, Elisa step into Kitchen to cook something. I already gave her best support by finish most of the ingredient except potato, it just too many. Let hope for more homemade meal to come from Elisa....hehe!

Elisa's Homemade Sandwiches

This sandwiches homemade. You can't get it anywhere. Actually, you can get a better sandwiches at Subway, not any commuter or train station in your mind but it is the restaurant name called Subway. Remember there is a conversation between M and C.

M: Too bad, Penang do not have Subway. Else, it will at least solve the traffic problem.
C: (Intentionally twisted the meaning of subway) Why not, there are 2 subway. One at Gurney Hotel and one at e-Gate.

This was N year ago. Now, Penang have more subway outlet, not to relief the traffic jam but to fill your tummy with freshly made sandwiches.

Anyway, Elisa's sandwiches (my recipe) also freshly made. Inspired by Subway, you can also prepare similar sandwiches if you like DIY. Because of the bread size or pocket is not big enough, we just filled it with Tomato, Tuna and Mayo. If you can bake better bread, you can add in cucumber, vegetables, ham and others.

6pcs of hot-dog bread - RM2.40
1 can of spicy tuna - RM4.50
6pcs of tomato medium size - RM2.90
1 bottle of mayo - RM3.90
The sandwich making by Elisa - priceless
