Ice Kacang at Bukit Bendera (Penang Hill)

Last weekend, we hiked up to Penang Hill for our team building. I'm penangite but can't remember when was the last time I go up there. I'm not shame on myself (or proud), when asked, many team mates declared they first time go up to Penang Hill and some of them are local.

Many changes in Penang Hill, you'll find a new facelift of Penang Hill. If you haven't visit to Penang Hill this year, take a train or hike up and try the food that I going to show you

The first food that you don't miss at Clif cafe is Ice Kacang

RM4.50 per bowl full with ice, kacang (peanut), red bean, jelly, content milk, sirap + 1 scoop of ice cream. The ice kacang also called ABC. It use to be all the ingredients at the bottom and cover with ice then the seller put some sirap on top of ice.
The ice kacang nowadays look so nice because all of the ingredient are on top of it. the rest just ice. To foreigner, It is our Malay dessert that you shouldn't miss

Creative ice kacang seller evo the original ABC to fruit Ice kacang. This bowl cst RM10 with many fruits inside like Kiwi, Papaya, Dragon fruit, mango and banana. Look at it already feel hungry.

There are at least 3 stalls selling Ice kacang at Clif Cafe bukit bendera. Can't tell which one better, just go with your sense and order from the friendly seller will do :-)

Qbean Soya Bean Ice Cream

Besides the Soya Bean Bubbles milk, next thing to try in QBean is the Soya Bean Ice Cream.

It is so smooth and good. I can say better than McDonald's vanilla Ice Cream or even the yoghurt ice cream. Or probably I never try soya bean ice cream, it is so refreshing compare to others ice cream.

Qbean offered Cone Soy Ice Cream at RM2.50, Cup Soy Ice Cream at RM3 and Topping at RM4.50. Selection of topping are Strawberry, Chocolate, Peanut and Oreo. I never try any of the topping, just original which is good enough already.

Check it out! :-) It can be found at Queensbay Mall and Carrefour Bukit Minyak.

Frosty Delight Yoghurt Ice Cream

"Ice cream is too sweet for me?" Try this Frosty Delight Yoghurt Ice Cream inside Carrefour, Bukit Minyak @ RM0.99 only. I never try yoghurt ice cream before, find it special when I first taste it. Sweet a bit, sour a bit. So, I keep on licking and licking and finish the whole things. (",)
Best! I notice yoghurt ice cream come into trend nowadays, there are a few ice cream parlour in Penang selling yoghurt ice cream but you can't get it so cheap at RM0.99 (I think). If this frosty delight is conveniently available every where, who else want to eat McDonald Sundae Cone?
Beside the yoghurt ice cream at Frosty Delight, don't try anything fancy here. Nothing else to explore except the yoghurt ice cream. Don't say I didn't warn you....!

Kuala Kurau Putu Buluh at Pasar Malam

When I saw the Putu Buluh at Kuala Kurau night market, I quickly order 1 set to try. What is Putu Buluh? I know in Penang have Putu Mayong. Putu Buluh (Bamboo) is another putu mayong put into Bamboo cone and make into shape of stick. Look for yourself
Although it named as Putu Buluh Taiping, I brought it at Kuala Kurau Night market every Saturday from 4.30pm to 7pm only. Don't be surprise of the night market start in the afternoon and end early. Local borne Ah Ben told us, the night market at Kuala Kurau is in operation at this hour only.
5 pieces at RM2.00. Putu buluh in the shape of stick is easier to eat compare to putu mayong. At least, you can take the whole thing and Oomph.
The Putu mayong and brown sugar put into bamboo cone by young boy.

Besides this Putu Buluh, you can find many dried seafood at Pasar Malam. I brought 1 pack of ikan bilis (Anchovies) at RM5. My mum comment the anchovies fresh and sui (cantik), taste better in deep fried.

Parit Buntar Fairy Brand "Beh Tai Soh" (Biscuit)

Parit Buntar exporting "Beh Tai Soh" (Biscuit) to many state in Malaysia including Penang. You can buy this famous Guan Hiang Biscuit at many morning market in Penang. However, if you happen to travel to Parit Buntar, you can buy this biscuit fresh at No 378, Jalan Kedah 34200 Parit Buntar, Perak. It is not easy to find, Google map also don't record the road name. If you search Jalan Kedah, you'll go to Holland. Refer to my waypoint here

The good "Beh Tai Soh" is the biscuit still crunchy on the skin and soft from the inside. While the not-so-good biscuit is the other way round, skin soft and the inside is hard. I buy the "beh Tai Soh" direct from the bakery which is freshly make and hot from oven.
If you successfully find the place, you need to walk to the backyard to take order. No receptionist at the front door, only the signboard of Guan Hiang Biscuit. The house number is 378. If you come in the evening, House 378 will be close. However, you still can place order at House 606 same Kampung (Village). Ask around the neighborhood, they are happy to point you direction
That day, when we buy Biscuit at Parit Buntar, there is a customer driving a brand-new Nissan Fairlady Z also came here for the "Beh Tai Soh". It is so odd to see somebody drive so good car to buy biscuit at Kampung (Village). Can you imagine, how good the biscuit is?

One pack is only RM3.20. (The dealer in Penang sell at RM3.80) People who came here don't go back with just 1 pack. Got white sugar and brown sugar, you should try both.
There is many imitate brand and make-no-mistake, the brand is "仙女牌" (Fairy Brand).

Teluk Bahang Fruit Farm Fruit Juice & ABC

In December, Penang has many to offer. It got Pesta Dragon Boat Race, Pesta Chingay, Lion and dragon dance Parade, Christmas parties and others. To find out more, check out Penang Calendar of event. I normally take part in Pesta Dragon Boat Race, because of injury, my role become food deliveryman for the team during the Pesta Dragon Boat Race.

I seldom come to this corner of Penang Island except dragon boat race at Teluk Bahang dam. Since, I delivered the chicken rice to the team. Might as well also visit to Teluk Bahang Fruit Farm to enjoy fruit juice and Ice Kacang (local refer it as ABC)

As this place promoted as tourist spot, the ice kacang also became commercialized. The Ice kacang here without kacang inside, just fruits and many sugar. Besides sweet, it still sweet. The fruit juice also normal, cannot compared to fruit juice shop near botanical garden

Anyway, if you come for the Pesta Dragon Boat Race next year (I most probably will return to compete) you can drop by Penang fruit farm for farm tour after exciting Pesta Dragon Boat Race :-)

Parit Buntar 888 Rojak

This rojak awarded with Best Tasty Rojak in the World. I'm no kidding. This is best of the best rojak ever taste. My ex-boss recommend this rojak when I work in Nibong Tebal 10 years ago. Back in that time, I always 'tapao'  rojak back to Penang every time I return home.

This rojak shop named "eight eight eight" found at Bee Chuan Kopitiam at Parit Buntar town. It near to Billion and Minat hypermarket. Easy to find with this map.

What make this 888 rojak special? Every rojak also taste good, every rojak also got fruits as ingredients, every rojak almost the same. Why, what how? Check out rojak making:

The special of this 888 rojak not only the rojak kuah (sauce) unique, the best part is the cucur. I can't explain how good is the cucur with the rojak kuah. You just have to try it yourself.

Penang Strawberry Forever Dessert Cafe

Not sure when it going to close down. If you happen to buy the discount voucher from Groupon for this Strawberry Forever Dessert Cafe, it is advisable to use it as soon as possible like I do. The restaurant is empty, 3 of them working and 2 of us dine in. Chinese have one proverb which said 小猫两三只 (Kitty cat 2 and 3) is apply well in this cafe.

I not sure how it conitnue without customers. The worker is more than the customer in the Sunday afternoon. They just found at Jelutong. Beside the only Burger King in Penang (at the time of writing), facing sea and have a beautiful view of Penang Bridge. GPS coordinate: 5.398128,100.329101 and map:

Elisa is the addict of Strawberry, When Groupon running promotion on the Strawberry and Fruit fondue at 50%++ discount, She buy it without hesitation. The promotion also come with this dessert
The centerpiece is bread with some milk, the black one is chocolate cream and another is vanilla cream.
The main course, strawberry fondue. The strawberries are big but sour. Other than that, everything is good. What you expect from a dessert is to combine different sweetness and you get it all here.

The normal price for above set cost RM42++. if without discount, I rather eat the Haagen dazs ice-cream fondue
