Juru Goreng Ikan Bawal at Warung Kelapa Sawit

Warung Kelapa Sawit (Oil Palm Shop) is a Malay food shop found at Jalan Tok Kangar, Juru. Why it name as oil palm shop while not selling oil palm? This is because the shop is in Oil Palm farm. So, they name it that way! What famous food this shop selling is the Goreng Ikan Bawal, Fried pomfret fish.

The promfet fish will fried till so crispy. It is so crunchy to chew on the fish bone. You can almost finish the fish as a whole. To make the fish even good to chew, they provided their homemade spicy sauce in black color. Yep, spicy sauce not necessary in red-hot color.

If you are person who sweat like hell after eating spicy food, this place will help you to burn more calories especially in the afternoon. There is no air-conditional room here. You'll sit under the oil palm tree shade in the open ground. If you are lucky, there will be breeze wind, else do remember to bring towel.

Besides the goreng ikan bawal, I also ordered some others dishes like ayam goreng kicap, eggplant, vegetables, egg pancake and salted duck egg. It look like nasi kandar but it prepared by Malay, We'll called it Malay Food. The Nasi kandar normally prepared by Mamak (Tamil Muslims). We just eat no matter who prepare it.

Above foods cost me RM19. It is so expensive! Let me list the food I ordered. 1 and half bowl of rice, 1 quarter fried chicken, a slide of pancake egg, eggplant cut into half, half salted duck egg, 100 gram vegetables and 2 pomfret fish. Bloody expensive for a lunch.

Later, I learned that this Warung Kelapa Sawit also bloody racist. One Malay friend said, it is cheaper for them to dine at Warung Kelapa Sawit. That mean, they charge higher if you are not malay. Don't believe me? Next time you go with Malay friend and check it out.

  1. I consider it expensive as I had to pay RM48 (RM4 for drinks) for 4 bawal, 5 rice, 3 eggs, 4 vegies, 1 small pc fried chicken. Nothing really special as we did not enjoy the sauce, sambal belacan at all. Go and try Bawal King at Sunway Carnival food street lower ground as the black sauce, sambal belacan and the curry is exotic. Ulam is free. Good environment with air cond and clean toilet. M poor 4 year old girl was desperate to go to the toilet and had to rush her to the nearest Petronas station.
